What to do if your WiFi signal is weak?
Many people don't know that the placement of your router has a lot to do
with your WiFi signal!
Fact: A router's maximum range is about 45 meters. Walls and metal can
absorb some of the signal. To maximize WiFi reception, router placement is
crucial!
1. Central Position
If you hide your router in a corner or behind your TV because it's not
attractive, you can't blame it for a weak signal.
Placing the router in a corner, especially a corner, will weaken the
signal. Therefore, it's best to place it in a spacious or unobstructed area,
such as the center of the house.
2. High Placement
Placing it in a high place isn't about fresh air! It's about avoiding
obstacles and maximizing signal coverage, minimizing blind spots.
3. Adjusting Antenna Position
Most routers have two adjustable antennas on top. The WiFi signal is best
when the signal is parallel to the device's internal antenna: laptops have
horizontal antennas; desktops have vertical antennas; and mobile phones have
different internal antenna orientations, depending on how you hold the phone.
The best approach is to position one antenna upright and the other horizontally
if you have two. If you have four antennas, position them vertically and
horizontally. Keeping the antennas at various angles ensures your phone and
laptop can receive a signal, so try adjusting the router antennas as shown.
