On January 6th (U.S. time), the CES 2026 International Consumer Electronics Show officially kicked off in Las Vegas. As the annual weather vane of the global technology industry, this exhibition has become a fiercely competitive arena for the AR glasses track. According to statistics from Lotu Tech, more than 50 AR glasses-related industrial enterprises made a collective appearance, covering the entire industrial chain including core technology R&D, complete machine manufacturing, and ecological services. They intensively released dozens of new products and technical solutions, which not only demonstrated the vigorous development vitality of the industry, but also clearly outlined four core trends: lightweight breakthroughs, independent terminal evolution, popularization of full-color display, and in-depth AI integration, laying the tone for the large-scale growth of the AR industry in 2026.

Trend 1: Ultimate Lightweight Breakthrough, Ushering in a New Era of "Unnoticeable Wearing". Lightweight is a core prerequisite for AR glasses to enter mass consumption, and many manufacturers at this CES delivered impressive results. The weight of several new exhibition products exceeded the 40-gram threshold, among which two reference design schemes set new industry records with ultra-light bodies of 25 grams and 38 grams, achieving a 50% weight reduction compared with traditional schemes. This breakthrough is due to the innovative application of underlying optical technologies such as resin diffractive waveguides and full lamination. While significantly reducing weight, it increases the transmittance of the waveguide to 98%, which not only ensures a clear visual experience, but also realizes all-day comfortable wearing, officially promoting AR glasses into the "unnoticeable era". In terms of design, new products generally adopt a simple frame and replaceable front frame design, taking into account both fashion aesthetics and personalized needs, and further narrowing the distance with ordinary consumers.

Trend 2: eSIM Technology Landing, Moving from "Mobile Phone Accessories" to Independent Terminals. Breaking away from the dependence on smartphones has become an important breakthrough direction for AR glasses at this exhibition. Leading manufacturers launched the first AR glasses supporting eSIM functionality, integrating communication modules and 4G protocol support. Core functions such as calls, multi-modal AI conversations, real-time translation, and online streaming playback can be realized without connecting to a mobile phone network. The application of eSIM technology allows AR glasses to directly conduct data interaction and computing power collaboration with the cloud, completely reconstructing the functional attributes and business model of the product. Industry insiders pointed out that this transformation will promote the industry to evolve from simple hardware sales to an operator contract model of "hardware + connection + AI service subscription", accelerating the transformation of AR glasses into an independent smart terminal entrance.

Trend 3: Maturity of Full-Color Display Technology, Greatly Upgrading Visual Experience. The popularization of full-color display is a key support for AR glasses to expand application scenarios, and full-color Micro LED AR glasses have become the mainstream display at this CES. Exhibited products are generally equipped with a single-chip full-color Micro LED optical engine, combined with high-refractive-index resin diffractive waveguide technology, which not only achieves a delicate full-color display effect, but also effectively solves the common rainbow fringe problem of traditional diffractive waveguides. Among them, the scheme adopting 2.5-micron pixel pitch technology has greatly improved the display pixel density, expanded the field of view to 70°, and can still present clear images in strong light environments, providing a more immersive visual foundation for scenarios such as audio-visual entertainment, real-scene navigation, and industrial maintenance. According to industry forecasts, full-color display AR glasses will achieve small-batch mass production in 2026, further stimulating consumer market demand.

Trend 4: In-Depth Integration of On-Device AI, Building an All-Scenario Intelligent Ecosystem. The system-level integration of AI technology has become the core competitiveness of AR glasses at this exhibition. Mainstream exhibited products are all equipped with dedicated AI chips and deeply integrated with multiple large models, supporting long-term conversation memory and real-time translation of more than a dozen languages, with interactive delay controlled within 50ms, realizing an intelligent experience of "listening, speaking, seeing and thinking". Scenario-based applications are even more brilliant. From automatically generating meeting minutes from conference voices, completing payments with a "glance", to full-process translation for cross-border consumption and barrier-free navigation for the visually impaired, AI capabilities have been seamlessly integrated into work and life. At the same time, Google has deepened strategic cooperation with leading hardware manufacturers to promote the implementation of the Android XR system in AR glasses, accelerate ecological co-construction, and bring richer application choices to developers and users.

It is worth noting that Chinese forces performed brilliantly in the AR glasses track at this CES. 16 Chinese manufacturers participated in the exhibition, accounting for nearly 70% of the total, covering products of all price ranges and multiple scenarios, and accounting for more than 90% of the core exhibition area. With the new national subsidy policy including smart glasses in the scope of subsidies, coupled with the iteration of core technologies and the reduction of costs, the AR glasses industry is ushering in a golden development cycle in 2026. IDC predicts that global smart glasses shipments will exceed 23.687 million units, with the Chinese market accounting for more than 20%. Judging from the display at CES 2026, the technical bottlenecks of AR glasses are being broken through at an accelerated pace, and application scenarios are continuously expanding. A smart terminal revolution centered on AR glasses is imminent, which will reshape the future pattern of human-computer interaction.
