Function and installation of GPS antenna

Release time: 2022-05-06 10:24:14 Publisher: Suzhou Gongwei Electronic Technology Reading number: 1276

  1. What is the function of GPS antenna?

GPS antenna system is widely used in our lives, which is inseparable from the important role of GPS antenna.

GPS antenna is used to capture satellites and receive satellite location information, that is, radiation and electromagnetic waves. High-frequency circuits can radiate electromagnetic waves in the surrounding space, or receive electromagnetic waves in the surrounding space unless they are completely shielded.

According to the different GPS antennas, they can be divided into planar antennas and helical antennas. Helical antennas have stronger star-seeking functions.

GPS antenna converts the electromagnetic wave energy of satellite wireless signals into current that can be absorbed and applied by receiving electronic devices, that is, energy conversion.

Usually, for special equipment or vehicle equipment, there is a certain distance between the equipment and the GPS receiving module, so in the actual environment, the connection may be disconnected for more than 1 meter.

However, the feeder has a great loss to the signal, so only in this case can an active GPS antenna be selected.

  2. How to install the GPS antenna?

  1. The GPS antenna can be tightened with screws, and the GPS stick can be fixed to the wiring rack or fixed to the wall with fasteners. If the GPS stick is not installed, the antenna bracket can be fixed directly to the wall.

  2. When the GPS antenna is installed on the bracket, the bottom of the antenna is higher than the top of the turret or wall.

  3. The GPS antenna is installed on the 45 protection angle of the lightning rod, and the GPS navigation antenna mounting bracket and the fixing bracket must be well grounded.

  4. When the GPS antenna is installed or the LTE address station is required to share LTE equipment from the same supplier, the GPS synchronization signal can be used after the BBU is centrally deployed, and the splitter can be directly installed to share the GPS synchronization signal.

  5. Make sure that there are no electromagnetic interference sources such as high-power microwave transmitting antennas, high-voltage transmission cables, and TV transmission tower transmitting antennas around the GPS antenna.

The interference power does not exceed -90dBm. There are no high-power transmitting devices around the installation location, and there is no co-frequency interference or strong electromagnetic interference.

  6. The distance between the GPS antenna and the WIFI antenna is required to be more than 3 meters, and the antenna cannot be installed on the transmitting port of the antenna.

  7. The GPS antenna cable is fixed with a cable tie (using a black cable tie), the direction of the letterhead is consistent, the spacing of the cable tie is uniform, and all buckles should be cut flat.

  3. What are the types of GPS antennas?

  1. In terms of installation and deployment, GPS antennas are divided into internal antennas and external antennas. Now the GPS module is gradually miniaturized and integrated, so it is a GPS module.

  2. Most of the lines use built-in installation and deployment. At this time, the antenna should be on all metal devices, the inside of the shell is electroplated and grounded, and away from EMI interference sources such as the CPU.

  3. From the power supply method, GPS antennas are divided into active and passive antennas. Passive antennas do not have low-noise amplifiers and do not require power. The amplified GPS signal strength is weaker than the manual antenna. The cable length is generally less than 1 meter.
